Qatar donates ticket revenue to Palestinians

Ticket revenue from the 2024 Asian Cup in Qatar will be donated to aid projects for Palestinians affected by the conflict with Israel. The responsible organizing committee for the Asian Football Championship announced this on Monday.

“We are sure that this initiative will benefit those most affected,” said committee chairman Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, calling the measure “urgently needed.” Football must fulfill its “role as a support mechanism” in the “hardest times”.

The Gulf state of Qatar, controversial host of the 2022 World Cup, will host the continental championship for the third time at the beginning of next year. Since the conflict in the Gaza Strip intensified following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, the country, like other Gulf states, has donated aid and supported medical care for the affected people.
