Maikel Boon from Bergen op Zoom is a Member of Parliament for the PVV in Brabant and, from Thursday, a Member of Parliament for this party. He is overjoyed that the PVV has made such a huge gain of 35 seats, as the exit polls show. But Boon does not celebrate together with party leader Wilders. “When I go to a results night we usually lose, so I stayed at home.”
“Fantastic and above expectations,” says Boon when asked for a reaction to the special result. “I am in 24th place on the list and was not sure whether I would get into the House of Representatives. Well, I don’t have to worry about that anymore.”
“I already have someone who can replace me.”
Veteran Boon was afraid that the results would be disappointing because the villages where they always do well were now a bit disappointing. But that turned out to be unnecessary.
Boon is also a Member of Parliament in Brabant and is not sure whether he will remain so if he enters the House of Representatives. “We are going to meet for the first time tomorrow in The Hague. I want to let it depend on the faction whether I can stay in the Provincial Council. But I already have someone who can replace me.”
“We’re celebrating tonight.”
Maikel Boon does not want to speculate about the new coalition yet. “Tomorrow we will talk about it, tonight we will celebrate.”
