PVH Europe has entered into a partnership with the technology group Infinited Fiber Company. With the cooperation, the Europe division wants to implement the sustainability goals of the US fashion group and reduce “all negative effects to zero” by 2030, the parent company of brands such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger announced on Tuesday.
Infinited Fiber Company has specialized in circularity in fashion – and among other things has developed a process with which a fiber can be made from textile waste. The ‘Infinna’ fiber will now be used in the production of Tommy Hilfiger items in Europe in the future. Later, the fiber will also be used for Calvin Klein products. The partnership also enables PVH to recycle offcuts and returns in production.
PVH Europe is one of several fashion companies that have signed an agreement to supply Infinna in the coming years. Infinited Fiber Company plans to ramp up production to make the product a “mainstream material” in the regenerated textile space, the release said.
The Infinna fiber is based on textile waste with a high cotton content. The textiles are broken down to the molecular level and then processed into new fibers. The resulting fiber has properties similar to those of conventional cotton.
Working with Infinited Fiber Company is an opportunity for PVH Europe to “turn waste into new products, closing the loop,” says Esther Verburg, Executive Vice President of Sustainable Business and Innovation at PVH Europe.
The first Tommy Hilfiger items made from Infinna fiber will be available in Summer 2022. The fiber will initially be used for T-shirts, with other product categories to follow.
