PvdA/GroenLinks possibly still in Sittard-Geleen coalition | 1Limburg

The joint GroenLinks faction in Sittard-Geleen is the third intended coalition partner for GOB and CDA.

The last two parties indicated quite some time ago that they wanted to continue to manage together, but that they would like to have a third party join in to provide a broader base.

By far the largest party
As by far the largest party, GOB has 12 of the 37 seats in the municipal council. The CDA has 8 after the transfer of Nancy Kaufmann from the Stadspartij. That makes 20 seats together. GroenLinks/PvdA is good for 7 seats.

In a joint statement, GOB and CDA say they have stopped talks with the City Party after a split in that faction. They state that they have spoken constructively with PVV (2 seats) and GroenLinks/PvdA. It was then decided to continue talks with GroenLinks/PvdA from next Wednesday. “To do justice to the outcome of the elections and to strive for the broadest possible majority in the city council,” the statement said.

At the same time, it is stated that during the follow-up discussions it should become clear whether trust in each other can be restored. That has been affected after GroenLinks left the then coalition in November last year. She could not live with the postponement of the installation of windmills in Holtum-Noord. This happened with the support of the three coalition parties of the then GOB, CDA and Stadspartij.

But the water between the parties is also still deep with regard to the development of the Schwienswei nature reserve. A plan is on the table for an eco-holiday park with approximately 200 holiday homes, right next to the Schwienswei, for the site of the former Euregional Sports Center. GOB and CDA agree, GroenLinks/PvdA is firmly against.

Broad coalition
On Facebook, GroenLinks/PvdA nevertheless announced that it wanted to give substance to the intention to arrive at a broad coalition in a constructive manner. The PVV finds it disappointing that it has not been invited for follow-up interviews. However, the party has indicated that it will await the course of the process and that it is prepared to resume talks to broaden the coalition, GOB and CDA say in their statement.
