The visit is especially memorable as Scholz declined to say a Russian incursion into Ukraine would mean the end of Nordstream 2. In fact, Scholz managed not to mention the name of the project at all during the press conference and a live interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. That made him the target of ridicule at home and abroad.
