Bill Browder: ‘Russian president is leader of state mafia’
Amsterdam – The west has not been naive about Russia, but cynical and greedy. So says the British naturalized American Bill Browder, who has been fighting a dogged battle with President Putin for years. Browder set up a successful investment fund in Russia in the 1990s, but ran afoul of authorities after companies he owned were stolen from him and misused for fraud. When Browder’s attorney Sergei Magnitsky discovered that corrupt officials had forked out $230 million in Russian taxpayers’ money, he was arrested, thrown in jail, tortured and eventually killed.
