Setting a date is made more difficult by elections in both Russia and India. Putin is a candidate to succeed himself at the polls in March, while Indians will elect a new parliament in April or May. In October, Russia will also host the meeting of Brics, the economic alliance between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
India and Russia maintain good economic and political ties. New Delhi takes a neutral stance towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since the start of the war in February 2022, and after Western sanctions on Moscow, India has been importing more cheap oil from Russia.
