Russia and the world are going through a difficult period of the coronavirus pandemic, but life does not stop there, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a speech at the state awards ceremony. Transcript published on the Kremlin website.

Putin instructed Mishustin to work out the issues of vaccination due to “omicron”
In Russia, since mid-January, there has been a sharp increase in the incidence, caused by the spread of the omicron strain of coronavirus. On January 21, the last at that time, November maximum (over 40 thousand) was beaten in terms of the number of people infected per day: the number of new cases detected almost reached 50 thousand. By the beginning of February, the incidence increased by more than 2.5 times.
According to the headquarters on February 2, about 142 thousand new cases of infection were detected over the past day, which was another maximum since the beginning of the pandemic. About 17 thousand people were hospitalized, 678 died.
The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, called the results of Russia’s fight against the wave of the omicron strain “not bad.” She noted that the country “put up all the necessary cordons” early enough in order to close possible entrances for the new strain. This allowed us to gain time and prepare the country’s healthcare system for an increase in the number of cases.
