President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a telephone conversation exchanged assessments of the situation in connection with Russia’s recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.
According to the Kremlin press service, the head of the Russian state emphasized the objective necessity of this decision due to aggression of the Ukrainian authorities in the Donbass and their categorical refusal to comply with the Minsk agreements.
Vladimir Putin also expressed disappointment with the position of the US and NATO on the issue of developing long-term security guarantees.
In turn, the Office of the President of Turkey reported that Erdogan during the talks indicated that he had always attached particular importance to a close dialogue with Vladimir Putin and intends to continue this dialogue.
According to Turkish media, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a conversation with the President of Russia that Turkey “does not approve of steps against the territorial integrity of Ukraine.” However, the Turkish leader is confident that a military confrontation will not benefit either side, so he urged to continue the diplomatic dialogue.
Earlier, Erdogan said that if he is called up now, “abandon Russiathen it will be impossible to do this, since Turkey now has “really advanced relations” with the Russian Federation.
