Put it to the test: “No traffic chaos yet due to the A4 and A10 closures”

According to Rijkswaterstaat, the closure of parts of the A4 and A10 has not yet led to traffic chaos. Reporter Celine Sulsters put it to the test and yesterday during the evening rush hour of the NH Nieuws editorial board on the Aletta Jacobslaan in Amsterdam, drove past Amstelveen to the Holendrecht junction to experience how smoothly that went.

“We do not look back on the past few days with dissatisfaction,” says traffic manager at Rijkswaterstaat Niels van den Brink NH News. “Fortunately, there was no traffic jam.” The working days were especially exciting. The work resulted in an average of half an hour extra travel time for motorists on the diversion routes.

“It was really busy on Tuesday in particular,” says Van den Brink. “Then there were a number of accidents and that resulted in almost an hour extra travel time. Of course very annoying when you are in it, but we felt we had it under control.” According to Van den Brink, this was mainly due to the deployment of three extra recovery vehicles, so that accidents could be dealt with more quickly.

In the evening rush hour

Amstelland reporter Celine Sulsters crashed into the evening rush hour yesterday at 5.15 pm and already got stuck on the A4. See for yourself how she fared in this video.

Closure of A10 and A4: NH Nieuws puts the (traffic) sum to the test – NH Nieuws

traffic jams

The A4 and A10 South towards Utrecht from the Badhoevedorp junction to the S109 ramp will be closed for a total of eleven days. Traffic has to make a detour via the A9 or A5 to reach its destination. And so there are 9,000 extra cars per hour on these narrow highways.

The traffic jam continues for a while. The A4 and A10 will be closed until Wednesday 3 August. According to Van den Brink, the De Boelelaan is a bottleneck, because the ramp at the Rai is closed. “There is quite a long queue there, but we have deployed traffic controllers.”
