Purmerenders react shocked to deadly shooting: “It’s getting worse here”

The shock of last night’s deadly shooting still reverberates in Purmerend. A 19-year-old Purmerend man died, the other man (19) from Medemblik is still seriously injured in the hospital. Many Purmerenders are concerned.

Last night’s fatal shooting is yet another sign of the decline of their city, according to residents NH spoke to.

“It’s getting worse here,” said a young mother of three, at the spot where the fatal shots were fired yesterday. “Then it is at the snack bar, then at the bicycle shed and now again at the tunnel,” adds another villager.

Bangs and screams

Something went wrong just before eight o’clock last night. Local residents heard four loud bangs at the station, followed by screams.

Police first received reports of the shooting at 8:05 p.m. Both victims were taken to hospital in ‘worrying condition’. Last night one of them, a 19-year-old Purmerend man, died from his injuries. Even though the police have launched a large-scale search, there is still no trace of the perpetrator.

Rumors

The rumor mill is running at full speed in Purmerend. It could involve a fight between high schools, an argument about a fat bike, or a conflict between rival gangs. “But it just happens in broad daylight at a train station,” said a concerned woman. “The bullet can just fly the other way.”
