There is great dismay in Steenbeke in northern France where four hikers were hit by a car driver on Monday. Three people were killed instantly: a 77-year-old woman, a 70-year-old man and his 69-year-old companion. The fourth victim was taken to hospital, but succumbed to her injuries. The driver was taken into custody and stated that he fell asleep at the wheel. But several witnesses contradict that statement.
