Purmerend in shock after another attack: “Had to go out naked”

The residents of Weverstraat in Purmerend sat up in their beds last night: their street was once again startled by an attack. Around 1.15 am there was an explosion at the same house that was shot at on Thursday. Ricardo Arcari, who is wheelchair bound, lives next to this house and was shocked. “I’m used to something, but this is really next level.”

“What we see here is one big chaos after last night’s gigantic explosion,” Arcari told NH reporter Rachel Morssink. The portico and its ceiling are pitch black, as are the surrounding walls. The explosion caused a fire. Three people had to be taken to the hospital because they had inhaled smoke.

Huge bang

Arcari was already in bed when he heard the explosion. “I was helped with that, because I am wheelchair bound. I was dozing off and then that huge bang came. I heard a lot of screaming and commotion. Then I was able to call 112 very quickly, despite the fact that I had my oxygen mask on. With the help of a local resident I was quickly taken out of my bed, because I had to leave my house.”

“I am naked, but with a blanket around me, driven somewhere.” For the local resident it was an extra shock because of his disability, he says. “You can’t go anywhere then.”

He is very shocked. “This is the second time in a few days that this house has been targeted,” he says with a sigh. Arcari has no idea who is behind the attacks. “I wish I knew,” he laughs. “This is a fairly quiet neighborhood. I hope that the municipality will also take up its responsibility soon and will soon talk to the local residents about what the plan will be to make people feel safe again.”

“I’m not going to sleep with peace of mind for the time being,” the shocked neighbor sighs. “I’m used to something, but this is really next level.”
