Purmerend elections winners reach coalition agreement

Four parties in Purmerend have reached a coalition agreement. Purmerend has been merged with Beemster from 1 January 2022. The coalition agreement states, among other things, that: the city center of Purmerend can become more attractive, that some cars disappear from the street and that more buildings have to be built for the middle class.

The redivision elections were held in November, where the Stadspartij-Beemster Polder Party with 9 seats and the local Labor Party became the largest. Party leader Coen Lageveen of Stadspartij-Beemster Polder Party was delighted after the latest results.

Text continues under the report below, where Lageveen talks about his victory.

The coalition agreement states that priority will be given to the allocation of affordable housing for teachers and starters. This will be in Zaanstad already done.

In addition to housing, a lot of attention is also paid to nature. For example, there must be more greenery and the Purmerbos will be enlarged and strengthened. The agreement reads: “The natural value of the western part of the forest and the wetland is special and deserves to be preserved and enhanced.”

Tourism

According to the parties, it is important that some of the cars disappear from the street to make the city center more attractive. “That is only possible if we create an alternative for people who want short-term parking. We facilitate long-term parking on the edges of the city centre.”

The municipality wants to attract more tourists in the coming years. In addition, the parties want to make the city center of Purmerend more attractive. “The attraction of the De Beemster Drying World Heritage Site offers opportunities for tourism and the economy.” In addition, the municipality will continue to support events such as Beemster Feestweek and Reuring.

The coalition agreement also states that Purmerend and De Beemster represent a society that forms a close network with the efforts of family, neighbours, friends and acquaintances, volunteers, informal carers and professionals. The municipality would like to retain the latter group by giving employees extra attention.

Lower gas prices

Purmerend is the owner of District Heating Purmerend and wants to improve the financial position of the company. The coalition agreement states that they want to lower gas prices to stimulate the heat transition. In addition, the real estate tax will only be increased due to inflation.

When it comes to sports, the municipality wants to expand the Leeghwaterbad. There should be an outdoor pool (an important point in the program of the Stadspartij-Beemster Polder Party), more swimming lessons and a more varied offer. More is being invested in safety. “We make entrepreneurs and farmers in rural areas aware of how criminal organizations operate.”

The new municipality wants to work from neighborhoods and villages. “We are a municipality that is easily approachable,” according to the agreement. “It listens to residents when they send a signal and is actively involved in the community.” Village and district managers are becoming more visible.
