Large stadiums, festivals and even the wedding of Willem-Alexander and Máxima. The world was at the feet of the band Ten Sharp. After years of radio silence, the Purmerenders have released a new song, ‘ Elke Dag ‘. “Nine years after the loss of my father, she still cried every day. With this song I tried to express that sadness,” musician Niels Hermes tells RTV Purmerend.
After smaller hits such as ‘When The Snow Falls’ and ‘Rich Man’, there was the big world hit: ‘You’. “It’s all right with me, as long as you are by my side” – you heard it everywhere. “But we could just walk on the street,” says Hermes. After ‘You’ the band made a number of albums, but major successes were not forthcoming. It has been quiet around Ten Sharp in recent years. Until now.

“My father died about nine years ago and that of course caused my mother a lot of sadness. But even years later she continued to cry, letting go didn’t work.” Hermes tried to cheer his mother up, but discovered a lesson in her sadness: “Maybe I shouldn’t push her and let her suffer the sadness.”
The demo of ‘Every Day’ had just been finished when Hermes’ mother suddenly died. “She has heard the song. That’s the special thing. Of course it isn’t, but you could say it should be.”
Love
The men of Ten Sharp have been through a lot, but Hermes does not expect any major successes with the new song. “You’ll never be able to match ‘You’. That song is so big and is still played a lot. An evergreen. This is much more private. Honest. It’s about my parents’ love. I hope it helps people.”
