Pumped groundwater is no longer allowed in the sewers in Bruges

A large construction pit was dug at a construction site in Bruges and more than 10,000 liters of groundwater were pumped up. In the past, that water would flow away elsewhere, but now it is reintroduced into the soil via a filter tank a little further on. Important for nature in long periods of drought.

Minou Esquenet, alderman of Climate Bruges: “In places where this is not possible, or in periods of great drought, we will require contractors to collect filtered water in an intermediate tank. We will then make it available to our residents, farmers We will make an online map that will show where such intermediate vessels are available and where people can go to use a little purified groundwater.”
