Puck Pieterse leads strong Dutch group of mountain bikers at World Cup | Sport

Mountain bikers Anne Terpstra, Anne Tauber and Puck Pieterse will participate in the World Championships in Glasgow next month. Among the men, the Netherlands is represented by Mathieu van der Poel and Milan Vader.

,,The Netherlands has never had such a strong performing class of women in the history of mountain biking. We normally have four strong trumps, of whom Fem van Empel has indicated not to ride in Scotland, because she will prepare for her cyclocross season. Pieterse is of a very high level this season and – if she can continue that peak of form to this World Cup – she will be able to go for the title”, says national coach Gerben de Knegt.

,,But Terpstra and Tauber have also proven to be able to score well on a good day. Olympic qualification is no longer an item here and we focus purely on a top result. The three women also compete in the short race, which means that we do not participate in the mixed relay. That would make the program too full for them.”

Van der Poel is also participating in the short race for the time being and it will be determined on the spot whether that part also fits into his schedule.
