Puck Moonen was afraid: ‘Never had a healthy relationship with food or training’

The life of Puck Moonen (27) as a cyclist was based on fear for a long time. The Brabant woman writes this in a candid post on Instagram to her 740,000 followers. “A lot of the time I behaved during workouts stemmed from fear.”

“Fear of doing less than others, fear of failure, fear of not burning the calories I just ate. I never had a healthy relationship with food or training during my years on professional cycling teams,” Puck writes.

“Looking back, it wasn’t a very happy time.”

“I only became fully aware of my behavior after a long time. Looking back, it was not a very happy time. By putting my mental health first last year, I now understand why it didn’t work out, or only temporarily.”

The Brabant is now mainly active as a gravel rider. She also has plans to help others. “Lately I have been thinking a lot about how I can use my experience to positively influence others. I also want to learn more about myself to come back better.”

Puck Moonen was also open about private problems a few months ago. That was then due to a stalker who harassed her. She went to the police for that. “It’s been a stressful few weeks,” she said in her Instagram post.
