Publisher withdraws controversial book about betrayal of Anne Frank

After scathing criticism from historians, the Dutch publisher Ambo Anthos has taken the book about the “betrayal of Anne Frank” off the market. The publisher announced on Wednesday in Amsterdam.

The evening before, historians had presented a critical analysis of the book. You spoke of a “shaking house of cards”. In the controversial book, a Jewish notary is named as the betrayer of the Jewish girl’s hiding place.

The granddaughter of the accused notary also called on the US publisher HarperCollins to take the book off the market worldwide. “With this work you exploit the story of Anne Frank and contribute to a great injustice,” Mirjam de Gorter told Dutch radio.

Anne Frank lived for two years with her family and four other Jews in a secret annexe in Amsterdam, hiding from the German National Socialists. It was there that Anne (1929-1945) wrote her diary, which is now world-famous. In 1944 the hiding place was betrayed and the residents were deported to concentration camps. Only Anne’s father Otto survived.

A so-called coldcase team of international investigators, led by a former FBI agent, investigated who had betrayed the hideout and presented its report in January. The Jewish notary should be the traitor to save himself and his family.
