Public Prosecution Service wants eight suspects in mistaken Cruquius kidnapping in jail for years: ‘Cold act’

This morning in the court at Schiphol, the Public Prosecution Service demanded 5.5 to 7 years in prison for eight of the ten suspects in the mistaken kidnapping in Cruquius. The public prosecutor calls the kidnapping a ‘cold-blooded crime’.

The public prosecutor emphasized that ‘the kidnapping had a great impact on the victim and his family members’. That victim is a 56-year-old man from Hoofddorp, who allegedly got stuck with stolen cars near the residential boulevard in Cruquius on August 5, 2021.

He was hit by a car and then violently pushed into a van at gunpoint. His kidnappers told him that they had kidnapped him because he had stolen cocaine, but it later turned out that they did not have the right person for them. They left the victim injured on the street, after which he rang the bell at a house in Delft and told them what had happened to him.

Fears of death

“The victim was in agony for days,” the officer said. “Suspects acted in a cold manner out of pure greed and did not think for a second about the impact of the kidnapping on the victim and his family.” Last Wednesday, lawyer Richard Korver said on behalf of the victim that he had told the suspects ‘could never forgive for what they did to him and his family.”

The case continues with oral arguments on Monday. Two more suspects will stand trial in October. The verdict will be announced on October 20.
