Public Prosecution Service: suspected conflict Seemed free, no serious assault

The 18-year-old man from Leek who was arrested on New Year’s Day after the death of a 52-year-old fellow resident was released this evening. This is reported by the Public Prosecution Service (OM).

The man died half an hour after he was involved in a ‘confrontation’ on the street near his house. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was involved and all witnesses were interviewed, including other young people from the group of which the suspect was part.

“The witnesses and the suspect were cooperative and showed themselves to be very impressed by the death of the victim,” the Public Prosecution Service writes. A number of telephones were seized for investigation. Camera images are also viewed.

The Public Prosecution Service also states that an examination of the body shows that there was ‘minor injury that did not lead to death’. A clear cause of death cannot be given. Reports of serious assault are denied by the Public Prosecution Service. “That conclusion is not consistent with the research findings.”

No more arrests are expected, the Public Prosecution Service said. The 18-year-old man from Leek still remains a suspect.
