The five parties in the Meerssen city council can indicate in a public meeting on Monday which coalition they envision for the next four years.
They can also make clear which three points they would like to see included in a new coalition agreement, says party leader Bjorn Molling of Local DNA.
From 3 to 7 seats
That party became the largest in the elections and therefore takes the lead in the formation. Local DNA increased from 3 to 7 seats, partly but not only due to a merger with Focus. The party still had two seats in the previous city council.
Self-employed Meerssen
Molling acknowledges that it is obvious that the current coalition of Local DNA, CDA and the progressive list KIJK!!! goes further. Together, these parties have 11 of the 17 seats, just as many as in the previous period. The parties are in favor of an independent Meerssen. The loss of CDA and LOOK!!! – both from 3 to 2 seats – was amply compensated by Local DNA.
Other parties
BRUG-M and Het Original are in favor of a reclassification near Maastricht, but together they remained on 6 seats. BRUG-M won 1 seat and rose from 4 to 5. But Het Original dropped from 2 to 1 seat. “But we want to take BRUG-M, which has also made progress, and The Original seriously,” says Molling.
As a formateur, he expects to draw definitive conclusions in the course of next week.
