Psychologist of GGZ Drenthe who had sex with TBS’er may continue to work

The 34-year-old psychologist from GGZ Drenthe who was sentenced to community service at the end of last year because she had a sexual relationship with a TBS prisoner can continue to work as a care provider. However, if she crosses the line again within two years, she will still be removed from the register.

This was revealed today by the judgment of the disciplinary court in Zwolle. The woman was already sentenced to community service by the criminal court at the end of last year because she entered into a relationship as a care provider with a client of the Forensic Psychiatric Clinic Assen entrusted to her.

The two had a months-long relationship and in that time they had sex with each other 200 times, the psychologist admitted. Her employer GGZ Drenthe went to the disciplinary court in January and asked for a measure.

The psychologist stated that she was forced to have sex, but her actions were largely voluntary, according to the regional disciplinary tribunal for health care in Zwolle. The approximately 5,000 WhatsApp messages between the two show that she also initiated the sex. Moreover, she insisted on continuing the relationship when the patient wanted to end it.

The accusation of GGZ Drenthe that she did not report the relationship to her manager is also justified. She was afraid that her employer would not believe her story, she said. Nevertheless, according to the judge, a GZ psychologist may be expected to immediately set limits and he immediately reports this to her manager.

The disciplinary tribunal also considers the falsification of statements for leave of the TBS prisoner to be serious. She said she gave a false leave address to prevent the patient from throwing a firecracker bomb at a friend of hers. In doing so, however, she has endangered the residents of that other address.

The behavior is so serious that it should be removed from the register for first responders. With that she would lose her profession as a psychologist. However, the judge gives her a second chance as a starting care provider. Therefore, deletion from the register is only imposed conditionally. However, she must undergo treatment.
