PSV takes a giant step towards the title with a win over Feyenoord

PSV won 2-1 at Feyenoord on Sunday afternoon. Against its direct competitor, it took control of the match in five minutes. Ismael Saibari and Olivier Boscagli were accurate for PSV, which now has a ten-point lead over number two in the rankings, Feyenoord. The people of Eindhoven seem to be well on their way to the title, their first since 2018.

The cracker between Feyenoord and PSV had major start-up problems. The first half was of a very mediocre level. PSV had the initiative but was hardly dangerous. It took about 30 minutes before the first serious chance could be noted.

Dangerous Feyenoord
Although PSV seemed to have the initiative, Feyenoord was the slightly more dangerous team. Right back Lutsharel Geertruida had two opportunities to give the home club the lead. At first he finished a rebound too wildly. Less than ten minutes later, the Feyenoord player came across the toe of PSV keeper Walter Benítez, who prevented the opening goal with a great save.

Just before half time it was Santiago Gimenez who was also close to scoring, but it was the toe of PSV defender Olivier Boscagli that prevented a goal.

Two goals in five minutes
After the break, a similar match seemed to take place, but within five minutes PSV took control of the game. After more than an hour of playing, Johan Bakayoko found the free-standing Ismael Saibari in the box. The midfielder did not fail to face the goalkeeper and gave PSV the lead.

Not much later it was Olivier Boscagli who doubled the margin. He headed in the 2-0 from a corner. PSV on the rise and a big blow for Feyenoord.

Ten points off
Saibari could also have made it 3-0 for PSV, but he came face to face with Justin Bijlow on the Rotterdam goalkeeper. Then Feyenoord started storming and that was rewarded. Gimenez shot the 2-1 behind Benítez ten minutes before the end.

The tension was back and PSV had to go into survival mode. The match that started out so boring ended up being the expected attractive top match. PSV managed to hold on in a hectic final phase and take the 2-1 victory.

Thanks to this triumph, it is ten points ahead of number two Feyenoord and winter tires for the flat car may already be considered. That hasn’t happened yet, but the fact remains that PSV has done excellent business in Rotterdam.
