PSV has been lucky in the draw for the quarterfinals of the KNVB Cup tournament. The team already knew they would play at home. This Saturday evening it turned out that the least tough opponent on paper – NAC Breda – is coming to visit.
However, PSV is not a favorite in advance. The four previous times that the Brabant teams met in a cup, the Eindhoven formation was eliminated by NAC. That was in the 2019-2020 season, among other things, in Eindhoven.
RKC Waalwijk had also been assigned a home game. The number 14 of the Eredivisie can place himself in the last four on his own field at the expense of AZ. The other matches that came up were Ajax – Vitesse and NEC – Go Ahead Eagles.
Four teams already knew after the previous cup draw that they would play at home, because otherwise municipalities and police would have too little time to prepare, a KNVB spokesperson said. In addition to PSV and RKC, these were also Ajax and NEC.
If RKC makes it to the semi-finals, it can play again in the Mandemakers Stadium. The winner of NEC – Go Ahead Eagles also plays on their own field. This means that PSV will have an away game ahead of them in this phase of the cup tournament, if they win over NAC.
