PSV quickly forces Go Ahead to their knees after red card | Football

The last goalscorer of the spectacle against AS Monaco was again the first in the Adelaarshorst on Saturday evening. Luuk de Jong had delighted Eindhoven last Tuesday with his winning 3-2, and needed less than four minutes in Deventer for the opening goal. Cody Gakpo’s cross was tailor-made, De Jong’s completion (header into the far corner) was excellent.

Within fifteen minutes, however, the home team came back cleverly via Isac Lidberg. The striker scored well after Deijl had returned a far cross to his teammate. The same Deijl then duped his own team after more than half an hour, due to a tough tackle on PSV midfielder Richard Ledezma. Referee Danny Makkelie showed Deijl the red card and the match was also over for Ledezma. The PSV player, who had suffered so much injury in his early career, left the field in tears.

In the remaining fifteen minutes before half-time, PSV cashed in on the surplus situation with goals from Xavi Simons (nice completion after De Jong’s double chance) and Armando Obispo (a good header). From a deep pass by substitute Ismael Saibari, Simons shot PSV to 1-4 after the break, after which Oliver Edvardsen narrowed the gap for Go Ahead again to a deficit of two. The last word was left to Joey Veerman, who shot in after a withdrawn cross from Phillipp Mwene and brought the final score on the scoreboard: 2-5.
