PSV player Luuk de Jong surprises national coach and retires as an international

Luuk de Jong is no longer available for the Dutch national team. The captain of PSV announced this via Twitter. Just this Friday, national coach Ronald Koeman would announce the pre-selection for the qualifying matches for the next European football championship.

National coach Ronald Koeman says he was ‘somewhat surprised’ when De Jong called him on Thursday with the news that he would no longer be available for the Dutch national team. “But I understand his explanation that he wants to concentrate one hundred percent on PSV. We will miss him. Both in the field and outside the lines.”

World Cup
Young is 32 years old. He made his debut in 2011 in Orange. He played a total of 39 international matches and scored eight times.

At the end of last year he was still part of the group that participated in the World Cup in Qatar. He was used in the quarter-final match with Argentina, which the formation of (then) Louis van Gaal lost on penalties.

‘Full focus on PSV’
“It has always been an honor for me to be part of the Dutch national team,” De Jong responds. EC begins. I want to be able to fully focus on PSV in the coming years.”
