PSV has dramatically not benefited from Ajax’s loss of points. The Eindhoven team gave away a 2-0 lead in Rotterdam. In the last 10 minutes of the game it was Cyriel Dessers who reduced the lead to 2-2. As a result, the club from the city of lights seems to be able to forget the title.
Knowing that Ajax had lost points at AZ, PSV went on the hunt for the victory over Feyenoord. It could come within two points of the team from Amsterdam and thus breathe new life into the title fight, with two games to go.
PSV started very strong in Rotterdam. Where in recent years it often started with fear in De Kuip, there was nothing to notice now. The Eindhoven team were better than a showy tired Feyenoord. The Rotterdammers played a semifinal in and against Marseille earlier this week.
Cody Gakpo
Not for the first time this season, it was Cody Gakpo who took his team by the hand. The captain scored after more than fifteen minutes on a pass from Joey Veerman. A well-played goal, but not as beautiful as the second Eindhoven goal. A wonderful combination between Mario Götze and Eran Zahavi ended up with Gakpo again. The winger beautifully penned the ball over the goalkeeper. A wonderful goal. 2-0 and PSV on roses.
The fact that Gakpo is important is no longer an incident. The left winger is not in the interest of Arsenal for nothing. In any case, the English club knows that the Eindhovener has not become cheaper after Sunday afternoon.
Questionable penalty
After the break Feyenoord seemed a bit fitter and had several great opportunities for the connecting goal via Cyriel Dessers. On the other hand, Zahavi forgot to lock the race. The home side were the better team and had plenty of opportunities. Five minutes before the end it was still exciting in De Kuip. Dessers headed in a cross from Luis Sinisterra.
Just when everyone thought PSV was going to keep going, things went wrong. PSV dropped too far back into their own sixteen and got the lid on the nose. In stoppage time, the ball went on the spot for Feyenoord. Dessers scored his second goal of the game but more importantly the 2-2. It was also the last kick of the match.
The penalty was a gift for the Rotterdam team. The alleged handball by Mauro Júnior is absolutely not a penalty and therefore the moment will provide enough discussion. Earlier this year, PSV was disadvantaged by a ball that may or may not be out in the home match against Ajax.
To be fair, PSV also owes it to itself that it was still exciting. You can never give away a 0-2 lead as PSV, and certainly not with these kinds of interests. The Eindhoven team is missing an excellent opportunity to make the title fight exciting. It could have come at two points from Ajax. The fact that it does not benefit from the loss of points is entirely up to itself and a little bit to the referee.
