PSV defeated Sparta with clear figures. The Rotterdam team were defeated 4-0 at Het Kasteel. The Eindhoven team therefore still remains faultless in the Eredivisie. The goals were scored by Malik Tillman, Johan Bakayoko, Yorbe Vertessen and Luuk de Jong.
Winning a visit to Sparta is certainly not easy. In fact, competitor Feyenoord has already lost points this season. But PSV doesn’t seem to be able to hold on in the Eredivisie. The eighth game also ended with a win.
After an open start with opportunities on both sides, the Eindhoven team quickly took control. They seemed to take the lead just before halftime, but a foul by Tillman that preceded this threw a spanner in the works. The disallowed goal was subject to discussion, because the violation had no influence on De Jong’s goal. Both VAR and referee Dennis Higler thought differently.
Strong from the locker room
Without goals, Sparta and PSV went to rest in Rotterdam. This situation quickly changed in the second half. The Eindhoven team came out of the dressing room very strong and decided the game within fifteen minutes.
Tillman, of all people, gave PSV the lead. A smooth attack via Hirving Lozano, who replaced the injured Noa Lang, and De Jong ended up with the midfielder. It was a breeze for the American to work the ball behind Nick Olij. A few minutes later it was Bakayoko who made it 2-0 with a devastating strike.
Big win
The three points were in the bag, because the lead was no longer in danger. The leader of the Eredivisie continued to advance to 3-0 via Vertessen. De Jong made it 4-0 just before the end. He missed his penalty, but took advantage of the second chance in the rebound.
PSV can enjoy the lead for at least two weeks as international matches are scheduled for next week.
