PSV introduces PSG talent Xavi Simons – fixed transfer instead of loan

19-year-old is free transfer

As expected, PSV Eindhoven have unveiled Dutch top talent Xavi Simons from PSG. However, the contract terms are different than expected. After various media outlets, including Fabrizio Romano and Eindhovens Dagblad, reported that the 19-year-old attacking midfielder would extend his contract in Paris and then switch to a loan deal, PSV announced Simons was coming on a free transfer and had a long-term contract until June 30, 2027 signed in the Eredivisie.

The agreement on the permanent transfer was reached on Tuesday, according to the Eindhoveners. Sporting director John de Jong said: “We’ve seen almost all the games he’s played in this season. In addition to all the international games he played for the Oranje U19s, we saw him live in the Youth League in Leipzig, Paris, Brugge, Manchester and against Sevilla. He convinced us. Xavi has what it takes to become a key player for PSV. He wants to go there with us.”

Simons, who is represented by the agency “One” of the late star advisor Mino Raiola (read the article about Raiola’s successor Rafaela Pimenta), joined PSG in 2019 amid loud background noise from FC Barcelona’s youth team, where he made his professional debut in February 2021. Even then, he had built up an extremely large community on his social media channels, which gave the transfer appeal, although Simons had previously played for the U16s. Last season he made nine professional appearances for the French champions (one assist) and also put in strong performances in the UEFA Youth League, scoring four goals and six assists in seven games.
