PSV has different weapons: ‘Every footballer has become better’

Without losing points at the top of the Eredivisie, through in the Champions League and without difficulty to the eighth finals of the cup. PSV is impressive and so far there is no team in their own country that can really hurt the Eindhoven team. Trainer Peter Bosz understands that opponents adapt. “As a player for RKC, I played against PSV with Ruud Gullit, and we didn’t know what was happening to us. So much pressure and such a high pace, you really adapt as a team.”

PSV was a bit too big for FC Twente in the KNVB Cup on Wednesday evening: 3-1. Bosz’s team also struck during the phase when football was becoming more difficult. “We’ve had multiple weapons all season. If it doesn’t work with good play and individual actions, we have Luuk de Jong as a strong finisher. He is so incredibly good with the head.”

“Players challenge each other to compete at that level.”

Bosz believes that it is not only the team that has grown. “Every footballer in this selection has improved. You see that this happens automatically. The level of training is very high and players challenge each other to compete at that level. I notice the right focus in everyone. But otherwise the experienced players in the team will take care of that.”

There are injuries in every selection and so also at PSV. Bosz is not concerned about that, because he knows that there are hungry players on the bench. “If guys drop out like Joey Veerman against FC Twente, it doesn’t throw the team out of balance. Malik Tillman played great at that position. And when Jerdy Schouten left sick, others picked it up. That’s great from the team.”

“Perhaps the toughest match of the season.”

Feyenoord is the next opponent in the cup next Wednesday. “That may be the toughest match of the season. We have already hit them twice before and showed that we have a chance there. But first FC Utrecht awaits in the Eredivisie next Sunday. Also a team that can make things difficult for us.”

One of the experienced players at PSV is André Ramalho. The defender is lyrical about his team. “There is a fantastic atmosphere in the group. We are a real team and fight for each other. Our greatest strength is that everyone gives everything. When we win, we are never completely satisfied. We look at details to improve.”

PSV is still in the race for all prizes. If it were up to Ramalho, he would be present at a ceremony on Stadhuisplein several times this season. “Our goal is to win everything. If there is a title, we want to fight for it. We are well on our way, but of course we have nothing yet. First up in the competition is FC Utrecht, who have started poorly but are in better shape. And then Feyenoord awaits in the cup, a very tough match. We have the qualities to beat them.”
