PSV has an easy evening in Copenhagen and qualifies for the quarterfinals

PSV has convincingly reached the quarterfinals of the Conference League. In and against Copenhagen, the Eindhoven team won 4-0 thanks to an outstanding Mario Götze. It is PSV’s first European quarterfinal in eleven years.

Where you saw after a few minutes last week that PSV was going to have a difficult evening, the opposite was the case on Thursday evening. The people from Eindhoven started sharp and were very dominant.

The lead after ten minutes did not come out of the blue. It was again Eran Zahavi who scored for PSV. The Israeli striker is in top form and has scored in the last five games. Now he got a beautiful pass from Mario Götze. The striker’s shot then seemed to be turned, but the goalkeeper let the ball pass under him.

Götze was therefore already responsible for the assist with the opening goal, but also appeared on the scoreboard after just under forty minutes of football. A few minutes earlier he had been given a (wrongly) yellow card. Much to the German’s anger.

That anger was soon turned into joy as he was the end station of a smoothly running attack. The midfielder was able to tap Philipp Max’s cross into the open goal.

Besides the fact that Götze was important in the goals, the German also played a very good game. He was constantly released between the defenders and was always playable.

death kick
PSV seemed to be able to finish the game calmly. A comfortable 2-0 lead and FC Copenhagen that didn’t stand a chance. But things didn’t calm down in the second half. The match was a real kicking match.

In the 65th minute, Cody Gakpo received a death kick. Denis Vavro came in very strong and should have been shown a red card. The referee only gave him a yellow card. The attacker was unable to continue and had to leave the field after a long injury treatment. A downer. It is to be hoped for PSV that the injury is not too bad.

Busy schedule
Despite the fact that FC Copenhagen had a little more attacking time in the second half, the lead was no longer in danger. Ten minutes before the end, Zahavi finally decided the game by scoring his second goal of the evening. 0-3. The final chord was for Noni Madueke who made it 4-0.

As a result, PSV can prepare for a busy schedule. There will be two additional matches on the agenda. It will play the quarterfinals of the Conference League on April 7 and 14. The return in particular is not exactly a favorable date. Three days later, PSV will play the cup final. But all in all, the club is writing history with the quarter-final spot. It is the first European quarterfinal in eleven years.

Of course this is just the Conference League and you can expect this from PSV, but in the past the people of Eindhoven have often failed to meet expectations. Fortunately, they are now and so the supporters can get ready for another two wonderful European evenings.
