PSV furious after questionable penalty: “It’s a shame!”

Rarely has Schmidt been seen so furious at a press conference. The trainer was angry about the easily given penalty in the last second. According to the German coach, it is a shame that a penalty was given. Mario Götze also had a hard time hiding his anger.

“We have a referee, two assistants, a fourth man, a video referee and an assistant video referee,” Roger Schmidt began his argument. “You also have plenty of time to make a decision. It is a decision that is crucial for the title race. But the referee doesn’t even look. Then why do we have all these resources? It is a shame!”

Because according to the trainer it was absolutely not a penalty. “This is never a penalty. Everyone knows this is not a penalty. The referee decides who should be champion.”

“There was only one decisive moment and that was the penalty moment”

The trainer was asked whether Eran Zahavi’s missed chance in the second half was decisive. He reacted strongly to that. “There was only one decisive moment and that was the penalty moment.”

Mario Götze sat next to the trainer. He first breathed in three times before reacting to the penalty moment. “I have to think about how I’m going to say it,” the midfielder started calmly. But then there was also a fiery speech from him.

“I just knew this was going to happen. I felt it the whole game and actually all season. Not so much with this referee but just in general. This is not a penalty. We are not happy about this.”

“How is it possible that they are not going to look”

The German continues: “The referees here cannot communicate. We have a video referee. How is it possible that they don’t look. That’s weird isn’t it?

Schmidt indicated that he tried to talk to the referee afterwards, but the leader was not available for the trainer. The coach was satisfied with the game in general.

“We played a fantastic first half. The second half was a little less, but that’s not surprising when you play against Feyenoord. That’s a good team. I can only be proud of my team. We have done well.”
