PSV fans hang banner at home of Femke Halsema in protest

Last night, a group of PSV supporters hung a banner at the house of Femke Halsema, the mayor of Amsterdam. The fans do not agree that they are not welcome on Sunday in the Johan Cruijff Arena where the top match against Ajax will be played.

At the end of August, Halsema announced that PSV supporters would be banned from the Ajax stadium on November 6. The reason for her decision was, among other things, anti-Semitic chants that were uttered again on 30 July during Ajax – PSV by supporters of the club from Eindhoven. Then the teams played against each other for the Johan Cruijff Scale.

The banner has since been removed by the Amsterdam police. It hung on the canal near the mayor’s house, partly in the water. There were no more fans in the area, so no one has been arrested, police said.

The banner reads (including grammatical error): ‘Bullying supporters makes you happy, your son is a criminal, not us’. With their protest, the fans also refer to an incident involving Halsema’s son. The boy, then 15, was arrested in July 2019 for possessing a fake weapon and breaking into a houseboat.
