The PSV supporters association wants Ruud van Nistelrooij to quickly clarify his departure from the club. “It also came as a surprise to us and it feels like a big disappointment. Something happened that affected him enormously. It would be good for the peace around the club if he came out with it,” says chairman Rob Bogaarts.
Van Nistelrooij had a meeting with the club’s management on Tuesday. This was in response to reports of a disturbed working relationship between him and staff members and some players. It was agreed to continue talking after Sunday’s last league match against AZ.
But Van Nistelrooij decided to leave a day later. “The moment surprised us,” says Bogaarts. “It is very bad timing. A lot depends on the last league match against AZ next Sunday, also because of the club’s financial possibilities.”
“PSV is no longer ‘steady’.”
The supporters association of PSV calls on the board to quickly restore peace within the club. “That was always an important strength of PSV. That came out much less with us than with Ajax or Feyenoord. PSV was always ‘steady’. We haven’t seen that in recent years, just look at the departure of Mark van Bommel and John de Jong, for example.”
For Bogaarts it is also a guess as to what exactly happened. “Ruud is tried and tested. He knows that things are leaked in the football world from time to time, that’s part of it. Ruud doesn’t happen overnight and yet he makes this decision. There is sadness and anger. Ruud is a PSV player coryfee, a hero. He has meant so much to the club. It is sad that he is now leaving the club in this way.”
