PSV fans are still overjoyed a day later: ‘Ajax has nothing more to say’

PSV won the cup final against Ajax on Sunday and Eindhoven knew that too. A day after the big party, the fans still can’t believe their luck. This is evident at the PSV fan shop in the center of the city, where the crowds were incessant on Monday. “My voice is finally back a bit.”

The unique bright red PSV cup shirt will be sold on Monday in the so-called ‘City Store’ (and the fan store of the stadium). There is a lot of interest among fans. Many of them still suffer from a hangover or sore throat a day later due to the party that took place on Sunday evening.

‘Day can’t get any better’
“Yesterday my voice was completely blown away by the screaming and the enthusiasm,” says one of the rushed fans. He proudly shows the special shirt to the camera. “I’m going to wear it every day.”

Another supporter is a bit more neutral. “I’m glad they won a prize again. That’s great news,” he says.

Confidence is rising in Eindhoven. Now that PSV has won its first ‘real’ prize under the departing trainer Rogert Schmidt, another question arises: can this PSV still become champion in the Eredivisie?

“Certainly! We are going to become champions. Ajax now has nothing more to say”, says a hoarse fan. Another supporter shares that certainty. “PSV will become champion. I have confidence in it,” he laughs.

17,500 fans traveled
Supported by 17,500 PSV supporters, PSV proudly stood their ground against Ajax on Sunday. In a spectacular final, Roger Schmidt’s team managed to beat arch-rival Ajax 2-1. The Eindhoven team managed to turn a deficit two minutes after the break.

The fans who traveled along provided a great atmosphere throughout the day and were optimally rewarded with the cup win. Thanks to the 2-1 victory, PSV takes the KNVB Cup for the first time since 2012.
