PSV fan after anti-Jewish cries: shorter stadium ban but no season ticket

The PSV fan who filed summary proceedings against the KNVB football association after a ten-year international stadium ban will be able to attend football matches again in April 2025. The court in Den Bosch shortened the stadium ban to eighteen months, but he will not get his season ticket back. “Hamas, Hamas, Jews on the gas,” shouted the 50-year-old supporter in a cheerful mood last April after the cup final against Ajax.

The mood among the Eindhoven supporters was cheerful as they left De Kuip in Rotterdam, where this match was played. But this football fan was immediately arrested after his shouting and was kept in jail until late in the evening.

His sons were allowed to go home without their father and eventually the man was fined 500 euros for his anti-Semitic statements. Six months later, another punishment was added: an international stadium ban for ten years. The PSV fan took a drastic step: he filed summary proceedings.

The judge considers it proven that the fan made the statements, but finds the sentence of ten years far too high. The judge points to ordinary criminal law. There, group insult carries a maximum prison sentence of one year or a fine.

The fan was not right when it came to the blocked season tickets. He wanted the KNVB to instruct the Eindhoven club to reactivate the cards, but that is not the responsibility of the football association. Only the club itself can do that.
