PSV ends the Champions League group stage with a creditable draw

PSV ended the last group match in the Champions League with a draw (1-1) against Arsenal. In Eindhoven, PSV played an excellent match against the number two of the Premier League. The Eindhoven team came back from behind and took a creditable point. Yorbe Vertessen was the celebrated man on the Eindhoven side with a goal.

PSV-Arsenal was a match that was no longer very important from a sporting point of view, because both teams were already through. This was also reflected on the field, because both Arsenal and PSV wanted to play football freely, which made it an attractive match.

Both teams also chose to give substitutes a chance. For example, Mauro Junior and Armando Obispo were allowed to start in the starting line-up for the first time this season at PSV and Patrick van Aanholt replaced the slightly injured Jerdy Schouten.

PSV the chances, Arsenal the goal
PSV started the match very strongly. The people of Eindhoven were given opportunity after opportunity, but they failed to reward themselves. There were great opportunities for Ricardo Pepi, Yorbe Vertessen and Johan Bakayoko.

It seemed like waiting for the 1-0, but the opening goal came at the other end. The first chance for the English was an immediate hit. Eddie Nketiah completed a nice attack.

Enjoy Tillman
PSV continued to look for attack after the break and was finally rewarded. It was Yorbe Vertessen who put the Eindhoven club next to Arsenal with a precise shot. Tillman was at the basis of PSV’s clever attack. The midfielder is rented from Bayern Munich this year with an option to buy. If the American continues his development of the last few weeks, it looks like it will become a formality. We enjoyed the PSV playmaker on Tuesday evening.

After PSV’s equalizer, Arsenal brought in some bigger names such as Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice. The latter was acquired from West Ham United this summer for more than 100 million.

930 thousand euros extra
This was also reflected on the field, as Arsenal gained more control of the match. The club from North London also seemed to take the lead through Gabriel’s header, but the defender was offside. Arsenal and PSV could both live with a draw, which prevented a spectacular final phase. Still, they each had one more chance, but Guus Til shot wide and Benitez saved on a shot from close range.

A victory could have earned one of the two teams another 2.8 million, but now they both add 930 thousand euros. PSV already achieved its most important goal two weeks ago in Seville by securing wintering there. That is why the draw for the eighth finals will be watched with excitement in Eindhoven on Monday.
