He was always trying, but maybe now is just the right time to use the rip cord and the opportunity of the Gakpo transfer and to dissolve a first and unsuitable player position. For the money you will find a more suitable solution next summer, which may not be able to “play everything” polyvalently for a change, but really master one position. And that has to be a real LA that resembles Sancho at least in profile.
Carlos Borgers or Andreas Schjelderup are certainly both available in winter if they don’t extend their contracts, which it doesn’t look like at all.
Of course, these are not players who immediately strengthen BVB enormously, but both have the skills to break through a defensive line, which is exactly what Dortmund is currently lacking.
Absolutely. Schjelderup would of course be extremely raw, but would at least be someone who seems like he can break up tight situations and would be more of that Advanced Playmaker like Sancho was already. I’ve never seen Borgers play.
I would have preferred the squad to be streamlined somehow and play the Euroleague, knowing full well that CL revenue would be wasted, instead of somehow cobblering together the squad every year until it is as inconsistent and financially bloated as it is at the moment .
