PSV remains in the footsteps of Ajax, Feyenoord and AZ in the battle for the national championship. A hard-fought victory was achieved at home against FC Twente on Sunday. With two assists, Johan Bakayoko had a large share in the 3-1 victory.
Within ten minutes, the team from Eindhoven took the lead through a goal from Fábio Silva. Bakayoko placed the ball perfectly on Silva’s forehead from the side, who then headed it past goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall of FC Twente. A cherry on the cake for the basic debut of 20-year-old Silva.
Fight for victory
Immediately after the break, FC Twente tied the score. After Xavi Simons missed a big chance for PSV, Twente managed to score in the counterattack. From the left, Virgil Misidjan seemed to want to give a cross, but it turned into the goal just past Benítez in the far corner.
Ten minutes later it was another cross from Bakayoko that turned out to be worth gold for PSV. He put the rebound after a corner on the head of Luuk de Jong, who scored his 100th Eredivisie goal for PSV. After that, the game really opened up and there were chances for both teams.
After a nice cross from Sangare, Simons managed to keep the peace and tap into the 3-1 in the 75th minute. With that he also put the final score on the scoreboard.
