The popular leader assures that “for an hour” the President of the Government felt

After every political debate there is always another discussion: who was the winner? And in those are now the PSOE and the PP after the debate between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the Senate. The face-to-face meeting in the Upper House -because it was the clash between the two leaders that drew all the attention- was seen from a very different perspective between socialists and popular. In the Government they believe that Feijóo will lose the desire to debate again, but the leader of the PP does nothing but show pride in the role he played.

I thought for an hour that I was the president and that the leader of the opposition was a fool“This is how forceful Feijóo was shown this Wednesday in an interview on Antena3. The hour that Sánchez spent trying to dismantle the former president of the Xunta de Galicia was seen in the popular bench as a descent into the mud and that is how Feijóo himself lived sitting in his seat as a senator: “I told [Javier] Maroto that I really am the president and I have a leader of the opposition who is a lackey“.

Far from focusing on highlighting his strengths during the debate, in which he had the speaking turn for 27 minutes compared to Sánchez’s almost three hours, the PP leader focused on qualifying the chief executive as “quite rough and quite nervous“. He even went so far as to say that he was “the object of the greatest furious attack” that an opposition leader has suffered in a European country.

The proposals

The vision of the leaders of the PSOE is in the antipodes. “They will take away the desire to ask for debates“, predicted the minister spokesperson for the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, recalling that the face-to-face meeting took place after Feijóo demanded that the President of the Government appear in the Upper House to be able to discuss the Government’s energy policy. “When one has lost a debate that he proposed and does not provide more than a cover, it is normal to use other arguments“He said about the criticism launched by the conservative leader.

In the Executive, he denounces that Feijóo reached the full Senate with hardly any proposals to save energy and only with criticism to attack the coalition of PSOE and United We Can. The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, denounced that the president of the PP took out in the Senate a document with proposals that he has not sent to the Government or to the press. Next, she defended that Sánchez appeared before the Chamber “unraveling in his first intervention a series of proposals with rigor and seriousnessbased on the evidence of the data that is what has to point us in the right direction”.

Practically on a par with Montero’s reproaches, Feijóo announced that one of the measures they will propose will be to apply discounts between 7 and 40 percent in electricity and gas bills to consumers who achieve save energy between 5 and 20 percent. However, the popular ones still have not made their energy saving plan public, although they are expected to present it in the coming days.
