Praise from PSG coach Luis Enrique
Warren Zaire-Emery has impressed with strong performances since the start of the season and has apparently caught the attention of France coach Didier Deschamps. The 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder could be called up to the senior national team for the first time on November 9th. For his club coach Luis Enrique, it would be the logical consequence after the youngster developed from one of the most promising talents to one of the best players in the French Ligue 1 within just a few months.
“He is exemplary, spectacular, I can only thank PSG for providing us with such players,” the Spaniard said at a press conference (quoted via “L’Equipe“) about Zaïre-Emery, who was the top winner in Ligue 1’s latest market value update with an increase from 30 million to 50 million euros. With this valuation, he is currently the most valuable non-national player in the world. In twelve competitive games, in which he was in the starting line-up eleven times, he had one goal and five assists.

Luis Enrique continued: “He is a role model for everyone who wants to become a professional. His daily work on the equipment, his preparation, his studies outside of training times. It’s not normal for a 17-year-old player to have such a schedule. He is a role model for PSG and all other teams.” That’s why he sees his protégé ready for the “Équipe Tricolore”: “I think if I were the coach of the Spanish national team (that was the case until December 2022, note d. Ed.), I would appoint Warren.”
If that happens, Zaïre-Emery, who was promoted to U21 captain following the arrival of Thierry Henry, could become the fifth-youngest French international in history. The Bleus, who have already qualified for the European Championship 2024 in Germany, will meet Gibraltar on November 18th and Greece three days later.
