Lee also scores against Toulouse
Champions Paris Saint-Germain won the French Super Cup. The team around superstar Kylian Mbappé defeated cup winners FC Toulouse 2-0 (2-0) on Wednesday, giving coach Luis Enrique his first title with PSG. After the game, Mbappé was celebrated as the new home record goalscorer on the club’s channels. It was his 111th goal at the Parc de Princes for PSG, something no one had achieved before.
Kang-In Lee (3rd) and Mbappé (44th) secured victory for the Ligue 1 leaders. For PSG it was the tenth Supercup success in the last eleven years. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Thailand in August, but the organizer withdrew at short notice. A replacement abroad could not initially be found, so the game was postponed to the winter.
After the game, Mbappé was asked again about a decision about his future. “It hasn’t been decided yet,” he told the TV cameras. As soon as there is a decision, he will not hesitate to name it. Even when his contract was extended in May 2022, he announced his decision as soon as he had made it. There will be no further expansion of the contract if Mbappé sticks to his previous statement. In June last year he declared that he would not extend his contract, which runs until 2024, and thus also forego an option that would extend his working paper until 2025.
