Will he stay at Paris Saint-Germain or move to Real Madrid? Is a move to Liverpool FC on the cards? Speculation about Kylian Mbappé’s future has dominated the headlines for months. Now the superstar herself has shed some light on the matter – but only a little.
“I haven’t made my decision,” said the 25-year-old, whose contract with the French football champions expires in June this year, after PSG’s 2-0 win over FC Toulouse in the French Super Cup on Wednesday evening. “I will announce it when my decision is made.”
Since the turn of the year, Mbappé has been allowed to officially hold negotiations with potential interested parties. This means that the top scorer, who also scored against Toulouse, finally holds all the trump cards. The national player could even arrange an extension in Paris until 2025 on his own due to a clause.
However, Mbappé announced last summer that he would not do this. However, the waves that resulted from the subsequent mud fight with PSG now seem to have calmed down somewhat.
Kylian Mbappé has reached an “agreement” with PSG
According to Mbappé, this is also the case because of an “agreement” that he “made with the president” in the summer.
“No matter what I decide, we managed to protect all parties and keep the club calm for the challenges ahead, that’s the most important thing,” said Mbappé. His future is “not an internal issue. We have to think about the team.”
But PSG and the media world probably don’t need to hope for a very quick decision. “In 2022, I didn’t know until May. If I know what I want to do, why would I delay it? That wouldn’t make sense,” he replied, adding that the most important thing “is really the titles, us “We have a determined and young group that wants to win trophies”.
