Thilo Kehrer didn’t play much at Paris Saint-Germain in the second half of the season. The club wants to get rid of him and takes a rare measure.
According to a report in the French newspaper “Le Parisien”, the new sports director of Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Campos, is planning a training group 2 with the French record champions. Accordingly, professionals who no longer play a role in the club’s plans should train there.
The newspaper also names three player names that are said to belong to the B team. These are the French Layvin Kurzawa and Colin Dagba and the German international Thilo Kehrer. Kehrer was no longer one of the regular players under coach Mauricio Pochettino in the second half of the season. He is believed to be on the club’s strike list and is expected to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer. The 25-year-old’s contract expires next summer.
PSG increases pressure on Kehrer
The upcoming World Cup in winter speaks for a change. So far, Kehrer has been part of the A-Elf of the German national team in most games under Hansi Flick. If this is to stay that way, he needs match practice. In this respect, it would not be beneficial to stay with Paris and only play a few minutes in the first half of the season. With the measure to turn off Kehrer in a second training group, PSG increases the pressure on the German international.
The fact that manager Campos has already introduced one also speaks in favor of installing the penalty group. At his ex-club OSC Lille, players who were no longer wanted by the club were deported to a second training group. Something like this is also not unknown in the Bundesliga: Markus Gisdol, as coach of TSG Hoffenheim, dismissed a number of players in 2013, including the then goalkeeper Tim Wiese.
