PSG close to French title after victory over Olympique Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain have the title in the French league up for grabs. The leader won the top match against number 2 Olympique Marseille at home with 2-1. PSG are 15 points ahead with six games to play. The goal difference of the Parisians is also better.

Coach Mauricio Pochettino’s team scored 1-0 against Marseille in the 12th minute. Neymar got his foot against a long pass by Marco Verratti and his volley left goalkeeper Pau López no chance. Duje Caleta-Car, however, equalized after half an hour after PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma missed the ball at a corner. Just before half time, however, PSG were able to take the lead again after VAR found hands on Valentin Rongier. Kylian Mbappe converted the penalty.

Mbappe also seemed to shoot the home team to 3-1 on a pass from Lionel Messi, but his goal was canceled due to offside. A goal by Messi was also disallowed in the first half for offside. With Georginio Wijnaldum as a substitute in the team, PSG held out in the final phase. Marseille seemed to equalize via William Saliba who tapped in on a free kick by Dimitri Payet. The referee also disallowed the goal after intervention by VAR for offside.

Marseille will face Feyenoord in the semifinals of the Conference League. The first match is on April 28 in De Kuip. A week later, on May 5, the return will take place in the Stade Vélodrome in the southern French city.
