The speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko commented words of the country’s ambassador in the UK Vadym Prystaiko. He had previously stated that Kiev was ready to consider abandoning NATO membership in order to prevent a war with Russia.
Nikolenko believes that Prystaiko came up with an unfortunate wording. The speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew attention to the following: the prospect of Ukraine’s membership in NATO is enshrined in the Constitution. No decisions, Oleg Nikolenko noted, can be made contrary to the basic law.
According to the politician, at present it would be good to immediately accept Ukraine into the Alliance, because Kiev is under threat. Nikolenko noted that now the search for an answer to the question of security guarantees is becoming a fundamental task, the entire system of power is working on it, reports “Interfax”.
Vadym Prystaiko’s words were not understood by the presidential entourage. The press secretary of Volodymyr Zelensky said that the politician should be given the opportunity to explain that, in fact, diplomat and did. He stated that his words were misunderstood.
