Proximus Pop-Up Arena under construction for 20 concerts

After the severe corona years, the sector is gradually finding its second breath. Middelkerke is also preparing for a summer full of events. The Belgian cycling championship and Tien Om Te Zien should also color the summer.

Construction in progress

Just like last year, a Pop-up Arena will be resurrected at the De Krokodiel sports park in Middelkerke. Between 3,800 and 5,000 seats for twenty concerts from 24 June. The sector is recovering somewhat.

“Finally it all starts to run smoothly,” says singer Laura Lynn, who will be performing in the Pop-up Arena this summer. “Now also in June, later in the summer and also in the autumn things are going much better than last year.”

Jan Van Esbroeck of Sportpaleis Group: “The market is difficult, but not for everything. Presales are satisfactory. Better than last year, but that was an exceptional year because of the corona. But less good than you would hope for under normal circumstances, but it is everywhere. Just look around you.”

Many initiatives

Last year, the municipality of Middelkerke also took a remarkable amount of initiative during corona time. With Ten To See, the Pop-up Arena too. And they will be back this summer. According to the mayor, this is a strategy that pays off for the coastal municipality.

Mayor Jean-Marie Dedecker: “Not only in terms of the catering industry and the day trippers who come. Also in terms of investors. We have a new seawall in Westende-Bad, there is no longer an apartment for sale there.

If you want to change the socio-economic structure of a municipality, you have to start with infrastructure and organisations. Middelkerke is bustling back. We still have one problem: the bridge over the canal and the difficult accessibility. But we are also a long way from solving this.”

Back to the schlager

And the Pop-up Arena also fits into that picture. With Laura Lynn among others. And she has good news for her fans.

“I’ve deviated a bit from the country I’ve been doing in recent years,” she says. “And I’m going back to my great love: the schlager and the life song. I hope I succeed in bringing my new single here.”
