Province wants to contribute a million euros to make roads in Borger-Odoorn safer

For two projects within the municipality of Borger-Odoorn to improve road safety, the province wants to contribute a total of just over a million euros.

It concerns the redevelopment of the Valtherweg and the Exloërweg near Valthe and Exloo, and the redevelopment of the Dwarsdiep and Dwarskade streets in Nieuw-Buinen. The speed limit for these streets will be reduced.

A maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour now applies on the Valtherweg and the Exloërweg. Part of the Exloërweg runs through Valthe, where a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour now applies. That will change to 30 kilometers per hour. For the rest of the two streets, the speed will also decrease: to 60 kilometers per hour. The road layout will also be changed in order to increase safety even more.

A similar process awaits for Dwarsdiep and Dwarskade. The two roads are parallel to each other, separated by a green belt with some trees on it. But you can drive at 50 kilometers per hour on the Dwarsdiep, while on the Dwarsdiep there is a limit of 30 kilometers per hour. But with the current layout of the Dwarsdiep, cyclists are actually undesirable. And that while there is a lot of cycling on it, as a main road. So the road is being adapted, so that it becomes a safe road for cyclists.

The province wants to deposit 500,000 euros for the Valtherweg and the Exloërweg and 598,000 euros for the roads in Nieuw-Buinen.
