Province of Brabant buys out seven farmers for 13.5 million euros

Seven Brabant livestock farmers will receive 13.5 million if they stop their business within a year. The province of Noord-Brabant buys them out, because their companies are located near protected nature.

If the buyout continues, more than 41,000 square meters of stables will disappear within a short time, the authorities report Brabant newspapers. The deal is intended to ensure that 37,000 kilos of nitrogen less ends up in vulnerable nature areas such as the Oisterwijkse fens, the Groote Peel and the Loonse en Drunense Duinen.

Stop livestock farming
Eighteen months ago, 29 livestock farmers reported that they wanted to talk to the province about the buy-out arrangement. Seven of them finally made the final decision to stop their business. They will have until September 4 next year for this.

Brabant receives money from the government to buy out farmers. The province does not say which companies will stop exactly.

Oisterwijk buys out pig farm
Last week it was announced that brothers Sander and Niels de Rooij will stop their pig farming in Heukelom. They will be bought out for 2.5 million euros by the municipality of Oisterwijk and the province.
